Olly Murs lands new TV role after being AXED from The Voice

Following his departure from “The Voice,” Olly Murs is slated to join the judging panel on “The Masked Singer UK”, stepping into the role vacated by Rita Ora.

The 39-year-old singer, who recently celebrated his marriage to Amelia, had enjoyed a five-year stint as a judge on ITV’s “The Voice” before the network decided to part ways with him. Olly, whose career catapulted after his “X Factor” debut in 2009, will now share screen time with Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, and comedian Mo Gilligan on the upcoming “The Masked Singer” series, where they’ll aim to unmask costumed performers.

Rita Ora, 32, will be taking a step back from the UK version due to scheduling conflicts, including her anticipated role as Nicole Scherzinger’s replacement on “The Masked Singer US”, given Scherzinger’s engagement with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard in London’s West End.

Commenting on her temporary exit, Rita shared, “While I’m disappointed to miss some episodes this season, I’ve been told my seat will be kept warm by fantastic guest panelists. They’re keen competitors and I’m sure will give Jonathan a run for his money!”

According to The Sun, a close source mentioned, “Rita has been a cornerstone of ‘The Masked Singer’ alongside Jonathan, Mo, and Davina. Though she will be absent for a few episodes this season due to her packed schedule, we’re hopeful to have her whenever she’s available.” The producers are also reportedly considering various celebrities to stand in for Rita during her absence.

The same publication quoted another insider stating, “Olly’s inclusion will certainly be a consolation following his unexpected exit from ‘The Voice’. The decision by ITV to keep him onboard is a testament to his popularity and expertise. He’s already a familiar face and a favorite among viewers.”

Recalling his departure from “The Voice”, Olly expressed, “The news was unforeseen. Naturally, I’m going to miss being on the show, but I’ll continue watching as a fan. It will be bittersweet.”

Despite his recent exit, Olly had mentored numerous talents on “The Voice”, sharing the panel with, Tom Jones, and Jennifer Hudson. While he may have moved on from the show, Olly is still set to appear at the new series’ launch. Following his remarks, ITV commented that “The Voice UK” would return with coaches, Sir Tom Jones, Anne-Marie, and Olly Murs, with more details about the 2024 series to be unveiled soon.
