Lee Rigby’s Son Astonishes the Nation at Pride of Britain Awards

Jack Rigby, the 13-year-old son of the late Fusilier Lee Rigby, clinched the Good Morning Britain Young Fundraiser Of The Year at the prestigious Pride of Britain Awards with TSB. What began as a modest goal of raising £250 by walking a marathon across a month, marking the 10th anniversary of his father Lee’s tragic passing on May 22, turned into a nationwide phenomenon.

The young lad from Halifax had initially been taken aback when his initial fundraising goal skyrocketed to over £50,000 earlier this year. With heartfelt support from the nation, including commendations from the Prime Minister and a myriad of celebrities, Jack’s cause garnered immense attention. The significant funds were generously donated to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, an impactful charity that aids children grieving the loss of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces. This charity has provided unwavering support to Jack for the past decade.

The award ceremony, broadcasted on ITV, was laden with surprises. Carol Vorderman, alongside Ashley Banjo, presented donations from TSB, Pride of Britain, Go Fund Me, and a generous £12,000 from kind-hearted readers. But the pinnacle moment was when Ashley unveiled a remarkable donation of £20,000 from Dragons’ Den mogul, Duncan Bannatyne. This gracious act pushed Jack’s fundraising total to a staggering £107,124 – symbolically, over £10,000 for each year he’s been without his beloved father. A deeply moved Jack could only express, “Thank you so much,” adding he was astounded by the “insane amount of money”.

ITV viewers were deeply touched by this emotional event, and social media was ablaze with admiration and support. One viewer shared, “Jack is the most adorable little boy. His dad would be so proud.” Another commented, “Wow! This little boy is the prime example of turning your pain into power. His dad is looking down on him tonight and is SO proud.” Echoing these sentiments, viewers continued to praise Jack, with one stating, “Jack Rigby will forever follow in his father’s footsteps – being a strong person. His dad will always be proud of him and continue to guide him down the right path. An angel in the sky, who left a huge legacy behind,” and another adding, “Lee Rigby would be so proud. What a young man.”
