Celebrities might seem to have it all together, but they’re still just people like the rest of us. They have bad hair days, they get food stuck in their teeth, and sometimes they gain or lose weight like crazy. It’s way easier to shed pounds when you have a squad of personal trainers, nutritionists, and cooks at your beck and call, but it’s still impressive when someone pulls off a dramatic weight loss like these celebs did!
1. Aretha Franklin
The queen of soul music deserves a ton of RESPECT for this incredible transformation – Aretha Franklin lost almost 100 pounds! An impressive feat at any age, but the singer started her weight loss journey in 2012 at the age of 70! She managed to lose all that weight despite struggling with diabetes and other undisclosed health problems that have landed her in the hospital in the past. She looks great, and she says she feel better than she has in years.
2. Drew Carey
One day Drew Carey woke up and realized that he was just a heart attack away from never seeing his son Connor graduate high school, get married, or have children. He immediately decided he had to take control of his life and get in shape – and he lost 100 pounds over the course of the next 12 months! He’s almost 60 now, and he says he’s healthier than he’s ever been. He’s even managed to cure his Type II diabetes!
Since first appearing on American Idol in 2004, Jennifer Hudson has gone from a size 16 to a size 6! She was a spokesperson for Weight Watchers between 2010 and 2014, and she lost 80 pounds during her first two years on the diet. She’s said that she doesn’t plan to lose any more weight, and in 2012 she released an autobiography detailing the strategies that helped her get her body to where it is now.
Jonah Hill is best known for appearing in Superbad, 21 Jump Street and Knocked up, however for his role in the 2016 film War Dogs he had to gain a serious amount of weight. Once shooting was over, he called his good friend Channing Tatum for some advice on how to shed the pounds. It certainly seems to be working!
Melissa McCarthy is hilarious at any size, but these days she’s noticeably slimmer than she used to be. She hasn’t revealed her exact weight loss numbers, but estimates range from 50-75 pounds. Apparently, she started adopting healthier habits in order to get into better shape for her role in the 2015 film Spy. When she started seeing real results, she stuck with the diet even after the movie was done shooting, and the pounds kept melting off!
